An Introduction to Nine Star Ki

 

Nine Star Ki is a system for understanding how time, character and change interact. Based on your date of birth, it places you within a pattern of Nine Stars connected to the Lo Shu and the trigrams of the Yijing. These patterns describe different ways of perceiving, relating and acting, while also showing how those qualities move through cycles of time. 

 

Rather than fixing someone into a personality type, Nine Star Ki provides a framework for recognising recurring tendencies and phases. It can help you understand why certain periods emphasise movement or withdrawal, relationship or independence, expansion or consolidation — and how your own nature responds to those changing conditions. 

 

The trigrams form an important foundation of this approach. By learning their qualities, movements and relationships, you begin to recognise the same patterns in yourself, in other people and in the situations around you. What may initially appear to be a collection of numbers gradually becomes a coherent way of observing change. 

 

This training gives you a practical foundation in Nine Star Ki. You learn to calculate and interpret a profile, understand the qualities of the Nine Stars and trigrams, and work with the cycles of time in a way that can be applied to everyday life.

In this training, the focus is on how the Nine Stars and trigrams express different patterns of character, timing and change. Rather than working with fixed personality labels, you learn to recognise recurring movements, cycles and tendencies - and to understand how they interact with different phases of life.

The Nine Star Ki Training — 9 Lessons

 

The training is structured in nine lessons, with each lesson building on the previous one.

LESSON 1: Foundations of Nine Star Ki - Introduction to the system, its background and its relationship to Chinese cosmology

LESSON 2: Wuxing and Your Nine Star Ki Numbers-  Understanding the Five Phases and calculating the three numbers in a Nine Star Ki profile

LESSON 3: Sheng and Ke Cycles- Understanding how the Five Phases support, control and influence one another

LESSON 4: The Lo Shu - Working with the Lo Shu square and the spatial and numerical structure of Nine Star Ki

LESSON 5: Heaven, Human and Earth — Part 1 Understanding the three positions in the Nine Star Ki profile

LESSON 6: Heaven, Human, and Earth - Part 2 The Nine Star Ki Positions and Their Deeper Implications 

LESSON 7: Dynamics Within the Nine Star Ki Profile - Reading how the different numbers and elements interact within one profile       

LESSON 8: Integration with the Yijing  - Calculating Your Life and Year Hexagrams. A new layer of insight

LESSON 9: Live Q&A and Casework - Questions, student cases and deeper interpretation

 

Each lesson includes video teachings, reading material and practical assignments. You can work with your own profiles, questions and cases, use the discussion forum to exchange insights, and receive guidance as you progress through the training. Bart Verhoef is a teacher and practitioner of Nine Star Ki and the Yijing. His work is grounded in years of study, practical experience and a strong interest in how patterns of time, character and change become visible in everyday life. 

 

In his teaching, Bart combines clear explanation with practical application. He helps students understand the Nine Stars, the Five Phases, the Lo Shu and the underlying trigram structure, while continually connecting the theory to real people, relationships and situations. 

 

Throughout this training, Bart guides you step by step through the foundations of Nine Star Ki and shows how the different layers of a profile can be read together. His aim is not simply to teach a system, but to help you recognise the patterns for yourself and become increasingly confident in applying them.
